Most people don't believe this but when it freezes here you need to cover some of the different kinds of cactus to protect their sensitive growing tips.
Some species are because they are from warmer climates south of here but the saguaro is a native here. You only need to protect the smaller saguaros.

I like the little hats -- makes it look like the cacti are going to a New Year's Eve party. The plants with the towels look like they partied too much last night and are suffering the consequences.
